There were at least 80 and as many as 100 "chronically homeless" people in Longmont at one point last fall, according to a consultant's estimate that City Community Services Director Karen Roney presented during the Longmont City Council's annual retreat on Friday.Roney said the study by interSector Partners L3C, a Longmont company, was commissioned to identify the prevalence of that homeless population in Longmont and identify the factors and circumstances leading them to become homeless.Roney said the city also "wanted to have a better understanding about the barriers to services and gaps in services" for the community's homeless, and how those might best be addressed.The consulting company's report defines chronically homeless as "adults residing in Longmont — those who are residents of

longmont man dies in single vehicle crash

A Longmont man died following a single vehicle crash in east Longmont on Saturday evening.Longmont Police Sgt. John Wederquist said that the man had exited Deerwood Drive and was northbound on County Line Road when he struck a raised median and rolled his vehicle.The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 9 p.m., Wederquist said.He said that alcohol and drugs are not considered factors in the crash, and witnesses said that the man did not appear to be speeding. Annual fishing permits for Ralph Price Reservoir inside Button Rock Preserve will go on sale on April 3.In order to fish the reservoir, anglers must have a Colorado Parks & Wildlife fishing license as well as the special Longmont permit. Permits will be on sale in Longmont and Lyons and cost $20 for Longmont and Lyons utility customers and $30 for non-utility customers.The permits will be available until Halloween or until sold out, according to the city's webpage. coroner ids 74-year-old longmont man killed in crash

The Boulder County Coroner's Office on Tuesday identified the man killed in a single-vehicle crash in Longmont on Saturday night as 74-year-old Salvatore Crisanti. The coroner's office announced in a news release that it will perform an autopsy on Crisanti, of Longmont, and determine the cause and manner of his death. Longmont police say Crisanti was driving northbound on County Line Road near Deerwood Drive at about 7 p.m. on Saturday when he struck a raised median and rolled over. Crisanti was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead about two hours later. Police do not suspect alcohol, drugs or speed as contributing factors. Longmont's City Council should consider adopting its own local construction defects ordinance, Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Bruce Partain told council members on Tuesday night. Power was out for about two and a half hours Sunday morning in the Southmoor Park area of Longmont. Longmont Power & Communications spokesman Scott Rochat said in an email that at about 6:07 a.m., a mechanical connection for an overhead power line failed near Quail Road and South Main Street.
