Desperado: Robert Pattinson in Good Time, a somewhat confusing movie. Good TimeDirected by Benny and Josh SafdieWritten by Ronald Bronstein and Josh Safdie101 minutes, rated MA 15+★★★Selected cinemasIt's anything but a good time, actually. The title is American prison slang for time that comes off your sentence for good behaviour. Not that the movie makes that clear. I had to watch a YouTube video of the brothers Safdie, the joint directors, to find that out. I found out a lot of other stuff that I didn't get from the movie as well. This is how it starts: Robert Pattinson plays a desperado named Connie who rescues his mentally handicapped brother Nick (played by Benny Safdie) from some kind of hospital. Nick is slow-witted but not uncommunicative. Connie tells him he doesn't belong there an

We love Oxenfree around these parts. The paranormal thriller captures the awkwardness of being a teenager incredibly well, tasking players to uncover the mystery of an abandoned military base while managing relationships with friends along for the ride. It's already available on mobile, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but the developers at Night School Studio have started teasing that it'll appear on Nintendo Switch as well.

teen brains may not be as hard-wired for crime as previously thought

Spikes in crime rates for teens and young adults suggest that biology may primarily drive risk-taking and law breaking, but Penn State criminologists studying crime statistics in other countries indicate that culture may also play a role in shaping teen criminal behavior. In a study of age and crime statistics from Taiwan, the researchers said that the Asian country's youth crime pattern differs from the model seen in most western countries. In the U.S., which tends to be more individualistic, for example, involvement in crime tends to peak in middle to late teens and then declines, said Darrell Steffensmeier, Liberal Arts Research Professor of Sociology and Criminology. However, in Taiwan, which has more of a collectivist culture with less separation between generations, the crime rate doe

michael jackson's 'thriller' without music is still a killer: watch

It is one of the most well-known music videos of all time.Thriller broke the mold for what a music video could be, and from Vincent Price's voice to Michael Jackson's red jacket, it is instantly recognizable. The video has more than 435 million views on YouTube alone. The 14-minute horror-themed music video was directed by filmmaker John Landis, and in December 1983, it was MTV's first world premiere video. Now, on what would have been the King of Pop's 59th birthday, Heat Vision looks at the video in a whole new way, thanks to YouTube user Red Rhythm, who posted the entire music section of the video, but with the instrumentals dropped. The dancing seems even more impressive in this version as every little move is that much more articulated. Jackson's vocals are still there, as are the soun

In the south London borough of Croydon, just before midnight on Friday, three teenage boys were set upon up by a large group of young or young-ish people. Two of the boys escaped with minor injuries, but one, a 17-year-old, was left with a fractured skull and a blood clot in his brain. He is currently in a serious but stable condition – although doctors stated on Sunday that his injuries are not life-threatening. So far, the police have arrested 11 people, charged five and are looking for three more. But there’s one key detail which has transformed this attack from a merely horrible incident into something else. The boy is a Kurdish-Iranian refugee, something his attackers allegedly ascertained before attacking him. And with that detail the crime gains a prefix – hate – and a seemingly far

why my stand mixer will never replace my hand mixer

Despite my excitement about bringing home the cherry-red stand mixer I coveted for so long, the strangest thing happened: I couldn't seem to part ways with my hand mixer. By all accounts it should have been time to toss it; it had definitely seen better days. That little mixer was on its last leg, and it was a wonder it was still functioning. But I held onto it, and tucked it away in the closet "just in case."
As in, just in case my brand new stand mixer suddenly stopped working, or just in case I lost the stand mixer attachments in my 300 square foot apartment. Plus a lot of other silly justifications that made me feel okay about holding on to an extra appliance I expected I'd no longer need.

netflix's ‘wheelman’ film is a claustrophobic driving thriller

The trailer shows the driver, played by Frank Grillo (The Grey, Purge: Anarchy & Election Year, Captain America: Winter Soldier), desperately trying to figure out who's pulling the strings of the deadly game he's stuck in. Most of the footage is from claustrophobic angles within the car, effectively framing the tension between the driver and the voice on the other end of the call. The film is a tight, breathless thriller that makes the most of its modest budget, according to Slashfilm's Jacob Hall. It certainly looks filled with the grimy lethality that's coming in Netflix's eventual Punisher series, but you can watch Wheelman long before when it lands on October 20th.
