elite: dangerous 2.3 expansion adds camera, multicrew—and a certain 7 exoplanets

Enlarge/ Looking up at the TRAPPIST-1 system's M8 star.Frontier DevelopmentsShare this storyMore than two years after its official release back in December 2014, spaceship simulator Elite: Dangerous continues to grow and add content. The latest update is called “The Commanders,” and it bumps the game’s version number to 2.3 (or 1.8, if you’re not running the “Horizons” expansion). There are plenty of new features in 2.3, including a vastly updated camera system for taking in-game images or movies; a “commander creator” feature for players to create and customize their avatars; and the ability to join friends on their ships and fly as a single crew. But one feature will be showing up as a last-minute addition: the newly discovered TRAPPIST-1 star system, complete with its seven exoplanets, w

elite: dangerous crowdfunding campaign reinstated after copyright flap [updated]

Enlarge/ Pew pew!Frontier DevelopmentsShare this storyUpdate: Spidermind Games responded to our request for a statement. After a three-week pause due to a copyright complaint, Kickstarter has un-frozen the crowdfunding campaign for Spidermind Games’ Elite: Dangerous pen-and-paper RPG. The campaign’s page is back online as of 21:45 GMT.The complainant appears to have been an individual named Chris Jordan, who filed the complaint on behalf of Ian Bell Elite Rights LLP. Ian Bell is the co-creator of the original 1984 space combat and trading simulator Elite. Bell and partner David Braben parted ways after Elite, with Bell pursuing other interests while Braben continued developing the Elite series (Braben also was instrumental in the development of the Raspberry Pi).At some point, Ian Bell alle

visit nasa's newly discovered planets in 'elite: dangerous'

Sadly, it's unlikely that you'll ever visit the Trappist-1 system's newly-discovered Earth-sized planets in your lifetime... not unless someone develops near-light speed travel, anyway. However, you'll at least have the option of a virtual tour. Frontier Developments is promising Ars Technica that the second Elite: Dangerous version 2.3 beta will let you visit Trappist-1 and its seven worlds. The developers are really just modifying an existing system in a similar location (Core Sys Sector XU-P a5-0), but that still means that you'll get a rough sense of what it would be like. You'll get to land on at least some of them, two of which will be Earth-like.

new hp elite x3, lap dock sighted at mwc 2017

Android smartphones may have dominated the MWC 2017 show but there was at least one non-Android handset that was catching the crowd’s attention. That is none other than a still unannounced new Elite x3, which could even be an Elite x4, still the highest end Windows 10 Mobile phone you can get your mitts on. Although HP didn’t allow anyone to touch the smartphone from its rotating pedestal, just a cursory look at the Elite x3 and its companion Lap Dock was enough to fuel speculation of a refresh coming soon.Without knowing the specs, this smartphone could be the Elite x3 (2017) or even an Elite x4. The changes in design are both subtle and significant at the same time that it could still go either way. For example, it shoved the front camera to the opposite edge, now on the left side of the

expect four new expansions for 'battlefield 1' this year

This first expansion has you joining the fight as a French soldier to battle across four new maps including Verdun Heights, Fort De Vaux, Soissons and Rupture. The pack also includes two new tank units, an elite trench raider soldier class and a new stationary weapon, the Siege Howitzer. The three other expansions, titled "In the Name of the Tsar," "Turning Tides" and "Apocalypse" feature Russian battles, amphibious warfare, and the most infamous battles of the Great War, respectively. The $49 Premium Pass will give you all current and future expansions, 14 superior Battlepacks (in-game loot), two-week early access to expansions as they release and 16 ne

theoretical battle: dark energy vs. modified gravity

Expansion driven by dark energy is now overwhelming the effect of gravity.Photograph by Copyright Nobel MediaShare this storyTwo decades ago, scientists found that the Universe’s expansion is accelerating. This was the complete opposite of what had been expected: the expansion should be slowing down due to gravity, not speeding up.At first, researchers didn’t know how to account for it. But they went back to Einstein’s equations for his General Theory of Relativity and discovered that a term he’d abandoned as his “biggest blunder”—the cosmological constant—actually described this expansion pretty well. There was only one problem: we can’t see the energy that’s driving the expansion. Nonetheless, researchers have gravitated to the idea that the energy is there, and they've labeled it dark e

It is published by The Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series.

Quentyn Kennemer Feb 28th, 2017Blizzard has announced some big news for Hearthstone. The game’s first major expansion of 2017 has been announced.Dubbed Journey to Un’Goro, the expansion is themed around a locale in World of Warcraft that features an ancient jungle filled with creatures like elementals, dinosaurs, and the like. The expansion will bring new cards and mechanics, as well as a new class of creatures known as “Elementals.” We’re also getting legendary spells — also known as “Quests” — for the first time ever. This is the beginning of a new release model where Blizzard will release 3 big expansions per year instead of 2 big expansions with smaller “adventures” in between. ricoh's next camera can stream live broadcasts in 360

The camera outputs video through either HDMI or USB, and it'll need constant AC power adapter to continuously livestream up to 24 hours of footage. The camera records onto a micro SD card to help reduce the size of the device, which is almost the same size as its Theta predecessors, although if you're recording 2K spherical video, we'd advise a very high-capacity card.Ricoh is launching the compact camera with a 24-hour broadcast from MWC in Barcelona, and says it'll be offering a Hololens stream too, if you're a rare Hololens owner. You can watch the 360-degree livestream here, while those tempted by the camera itself can preorder today: the camera is set to arrive this spring.

zte nubia n1 lite tries to make a big splash at mwc 2017

When ZTE sub-brand nubia released the nubia N1 last year, it barely made a peep. With the less capable but supposedly more affordable nubia N1 lite, however, it is devoting some MWC 2017 space for it. Which is even more ironic considering the N1 lite is truly a “lite” version of the N1, though nubia promises that it has just enough features to be worth its cost.If the nubia N1 was already a mid-range device, the N1 lite is unsurprisingly a small step lower. The company hasn’t spilled all the beans regarding the hardware, but its booth at Barcelona does shed some light. The N1 lite runs on a 1.5 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737 processor with 2 GB of RAM at least. Storage is a rather measly 16 GB and expansion isn’t much, up to 32 GB only.nubia does boast of a few interesting tidbits about the

'descent'-inspired 'sublevel zero redux' coming to ps4

"The game itself is an homage to one of our favorite games, the classic 6DoF shooter Descent," says lead artist and cofounder Gary Lloyd from developer Sigtrap. However, it's been updated with random procedural generation, looting and crafting, permadeath and other modern elements. While inspired by the original's 8-bit low-poly look, Sublevel Zero: Redux was modernized with "hyper-saturated" neon lighting and colors. "The soundtrack likewise starts from chiptune roots and adds a modern twist to create a pulse-pounding orchestral glitch score," adds Lloyd. Other new features include over 70 new rooms, an enhanced campaign that gets harder as you get better, two new enemies, elite unlockable foes and more. The team had overcome some adversity to get to this point, as its original publisher we

'hearthstone' gets first expansion of the year in early april

Named for the World of Warcraft zone of dangerous jungles and lost secrets, Journey to Un'Goro will introduce 135 new cards to the game. The first of this year's three expansions ushers in the Year Of The Mammoth, which will rotate all content from 2015 out of the competitive Standard format. While that means finally saying goodbye to your beloved Reno Jackson decks, Un'Goro will bring in a few cool changes. First on the list are two brand-new mechanics: 'Adapt' lets you choose from three random stat or ability options to give a creature once it enters play, while 'Quest' spells activate their devastating effect after satisfying their requirements. There's also a new creature type, Elementals, to join Dragons, Murlocs and Pirates as a theme to arrange your decks around.'Adapt' will likely u
