protectionism, again: joint action by stock exchanges raises concerns

The joint statement issued by three stock exchanges on Friday — deciding to immediately terminate the agreements for licensing indices and prices of Indian securities to foreign exchanges — raises concerns on several fronts. The action constitutes protectionism, which harms a market (Singapore Stock Exchange, or SGX) that has served global investors well. As with all protectionism, this decision favours one industry (the domestic securities industry) and harms the larger economy as the costs of foreign investment into India have just gone up. The issue of India’s ...

Safety concerns have been raised over babysitting posts on Airtasker. Airtasker user Ajay from Seven Hills in New South Wales posted last week: "I have three girls aged 5/6/10 and need someone to watch them tomorrow night". Airtaskers bid on the job and Ajay assigned it to one person for $75 for three hours.

game of the week: dragon hills 2

Dragons! Zombies! Explosions! Dragon Hills 2 is full of action! This week, the developers at Rebel Twins dropped a sequel to the popular casual game Dragon Hills and just like the destruction you can cause in the game, Dragon Hills 2 has been destroying my free time.Dragon Hills 2 has everything you could want in a casual game. It's easy to play for just minutes at a time, the graphics are colorful and striking, and the difficulty makes all progress seem important. I didn't really play the first Dragon Hills, but you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be playing this sequel on and off for months.GameplayLike a lot of casual games, Dragon Hills 2 falls under the auto-runner category, which is to say that even though you are always aiming for the high score, there is a small but present progress

fy17 gdp growth retained at 7.1% and gva growth revised sharply to 7.1%

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has sharply raised growth of gross value added (GVA) to 7.1 per cent in 2016-17, from earlier estimates of 6.6 per cent, due to revision in agriculture and mining expansion. However, it maintained its gross domestic product (GDP) growth estimate for FY17 at 7.1 per cent, but has upped it FY16 growth estimate to 8.2 per cent, from the earlier 7.9 per cent. Data, released a day ahead of the Budget for 2017-18, however, painted a rosy picture of gross fixed capital formation, representing investments. The Revised Estimates, released by the CSO, show the greatest divergence in the case of the primary sector. GVA by the sector, which includes agriculture and mining, is now estimated to have grown by 7.4 per cent in FY16, up from the earlier estimate of 4.4 pe
