samsung notebook 9 2018 models include 2-in-1 `pen` version

Samsung has just revealed three new Samsung Notebook 9 models for the 2018 year, the trio arriving in both 13.3-inch and 15-inch versions. Joining the three new models is the Samsung Notebook 9 Pen, a lightweight 2-in-1 model with a 360-degree hinge and an included S Pen stylus. Unlike the other models, the Notebook 9 Pen is made with a premium magnesium aluminum, which makes it lighter than regular aluminum. Samsung calls this magnesium aluminum alloy “Metal12.” The new 2.2lbs Samsung Notebook 9 Pen can be converted from regular laptop mode into a tablet mode, which itself is ideal to use with the included S Pen. That S Pen doesn’t contain a battery; it has 4,096 pressure levels as well as a 0.7mm tip, plus tilt detection. Samsung says this combination of features gives users a more reali

samsung’s pen-equipped notebook 9 pro arrives in late june

The S Pen is the Pro's most distinguishing upgrade from the standard Notebook 9, though it's the same one that comes with the Galaxy Tab S3 and Galaxy Book. Just like with those devices, ejecting the S Pen from the Pro's dock prompts a pop-up that gives you access to the Air Command or Windows Ink workspaces, which is more integrated functionality than competing laptops that similarly include a stylus.Like the regular Notebook 9, the pro models are powered by Intel's seventh-generation Core i7 processors -- in this case, the 7500U chips. While the stock versions of the normal laptops cap out at 8GB of DDR4 dual-channel RAM, the 15-inch Pro comes with 16GB RAM. The beefed-up larger size also ditched the normal Notebook 9's NVIDIA 940MX GPU in favor of an AMD Radeon 540 with 2GB of discrete

samsung notebook 9 pro and its s pen partner launch in 2 weeks

Samsung is really bringing its S Pen back to its Windows devices. Following the 2-in-1 Galaxy Book duo, Samsung announced the Notebook 9 Pro convertible late May that not only offer better specs than the non-Pro Notebook 9 before it, it also offered stylus inside. Unlike with the Galaxy Books, Samsung isn’t waiting too long to bring the laptop hybrid to market, with Notebook 9 Pro pre-orders starting this week and a launch set late June.Unlike most of the Pen-enabled Windows 10 devices we’ve seen the past few weeks, the Samsung Notebook 9 Pro takes on a slightly more traditional laptop form, though it does bend over backwards to turn into a tablet or a stand. This more conventional design allows Samsung to cram a lot more power inside the device. There are two models available, in 13.3-inch

there's bad galaxy s9 news for ces 2018

If you were hoping to get a look at Samsung’s upcoming flagship Galaxy phone during CES 2018 next month, we have some bad news. Sources claim Samsung will be showing off some of its phones at the event in January, as well as LG, but the showcase will involve “low-end” handsets. That will include the Samsung A8 and A8 Plus 2018 models, both rumored to feature the long Infinity Display and certain Bixby functions. The Galaxy S9 is another matter.Last month, a report surfaced claiming that Samsung would in some way introduce the Galaxy S9 at CES 2018, an exciting prospect that was hard to believe. It only took a couple weeks for Samsung to dash those hopes, for the most part, telling a Korean newspaper that it is “unlikely” it will show off its upcoming Galaxy flagship at the tech event. Howe

samsung commits to monthly security updates for unlocked us smartphones

Enlarge/ The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, Samsung's most recent (non-exploding) flagship smartphones. Ron AmadeoShare this storyAccording to a report from ZDNet, Samsung is finally bringing monthly Android security updates to one of its most neglected flagship smartphone variants: unlocked US devices. An e-mail from the company says it has "resolved the challenges" with releasing monthly updates, and it is now "committed" to releasing updates every month for "unlocked Galaxy devices" in the US.Unlocked devices are usually safe bets as the best models for updates because they are free from carrier interference. This means there is one less stumbling block in the usual "Google ⇒ OEM ⇒ Carrier" software handoff. In Samsung's case, though, there are two major versions of the Galaxy S7 (and m

samsung's 2018 notebook 9 lineup includes macbook, surface challengers

The three new Notebook 9 laptops have a more familiar look and feel, and are available in either 13.3- or 15-inch sizes. They can include up to 1TB of storage, and the 15-inch has an option for discrete graphics, but they share the Pen's CPU and RAM options. All of these laptops include fingerprint scanners and Windows Hello support (the 9 Pen includes IR scanning for facial recognition), while only the 15-inch has a Thunderbolt port. We'll learn more about them in a couple of weeks at CES, and see all the new competition on the way in 2018. There's no word on price or exact release date, but they're due to arrive in the US during Q1.Notebooks designed for mobility – both devices are among the thinnest in their class for easy portability, and working on-the-go. opinion: how iphone naming should change in 2018 (and why it’s a marketing chall

Now that Apple has released the iPhone X, there are currently eight different iPhone models in the lineup. These include the SE, 6s and 6s Plus, 7 and 7 Plus, 8 and 8 Plus, and now the iPhone X. How does Apple intend to make sense of this if there are another three, possibly four, iPhones coming out next year? Here’s my proposal.First, let’s go over why Apple may be clinging to the numbered system. I think the reasoning is really two-fold. It’s as simple as there hasn’t really been a reason not to before now. Before this year there had only been at most five iPhone models to choose from. Now, with eight and possibly four more next year, were looking at a much bigger selection. The second reason they haven’t changed the naming conventions is likely because of branding. Yes, I know, Apple doe

forget this year, 3 new oled iphones expected in 2018

In an exclusive, the Asian publication says that Apple will introduce three new iPhones in 2018. In a first, all three models will include OLED displays. For this year’s iPhone models, only the so-called 5.8-inch “iPhone 8” is likely to have an OLED display. The other two, the 4.7-inch “iPhone 7s” and 5.5-inch “iPhone 7s Plus” are likely to use LCD like the current models.Naturally, this being Apple, the publication cautions that the company’s plans are subject to change, noting:The company has a record of tweaking product specifications and lineup along the way, staying flexible to accommodate market forces and component quality.Switching to OLED from LCD for all 2018 iPhone models should be a boon for Samsung, which heavily dominates the OLED market. However, Apple’s likely to give some

samsung's notebook 9 pro harbors a stowaway s pen

The S Pen that comes with the Notebook 9 Pro is the same one that accompanies the Galaxy Tab S3 and Galaxy Book. It has a fine 0.7mm nib, can detect up to 4,000 levels of pressure, and supports Windows Ink as well as the Galaxy smartphones' Air Command. That means you can use the S Pen to sign documents and take notes on the Windows 10 laptop. To be fair, many convertibles already support stylus input, including options from HP, Lenovo and Dell, but Samsung's device offers more comprehensive and helpful tools.Like previous Samsung Notebooks, the 9 Pro also supports fast charging over USB Type-C using a compatible smartphone charger, although the company hasn't provided an estimate for how long it would take to fully power the 54Whr cell. You can also plug it into a portable battery pack to

2018 galaxy a5 with infinity display teased in benchmarks

The 2018 version of the Samsung Galaxy A5 may feature an Infinity Display, the same display found on the Galaxy S8 handsets. The use of Infinity Display means the home button will be eliminated from the front of the phone, and we’ll likely see the fingerprint sensor put on the back of the handset. Assuming this is all true, it’ll give Samsung fans an option for an Infinity Display that is cheaper than the existing handsets with this feature.Evidence of the Infinity Display comes from HTML5 tests; the handset is listed as the Samsung SM-A530F, and its benchmark shows a screen resolution of 412 x 846, which is unfortunately much lower than previously leaked. This aspect ratio, though, is 18:9, which indicates that the Galaxy A5 (2018) will have the newer, longer panel.Using an Infinity Displ

samsung notebook 9 pro adds s pen to windows 10 convertible

Samsung is bringing the S Pen to its notebooks, with the Samsung Notebook 9 Pro packing both digital stylus support and a 360-degree hinge. Helping tide us over between now and the Galaxy Note 8 expected to be released later in the year, the new convertible will be offered in two sizes, 13.3-inches and 15-inches. Either way, it packs some of the advanced pen features we tested out on the Galaxy Book earlier this month. Like the Galaxy Book’s S Pen, the Notebook 9 Pro’s stylus has a 0.7mm tip for more pencil-like accuracy. It can also differentiate between 4,096 levels of pressure, for increased precision in graphics software and while writing. Finally, tilt recognition means that, in supported apps, the angle at which the nib is approaching the display can also be taken into account.Just a

google just patented a new kind of laptop

A new kind of notebook computer was granted a patent for Google this week by the USPTO. In this patent, a notebook with a new method for multiple use-case scenarios was presented. Instead of what the patent calls an “uncomfortable ‘squishy’ feeling”, the user would cover the notebook’s keyboard when the notebook is in “tablet” mode, doing so with a panel on a powerful hinge.“A laptop computer may include a lid, a base, a hinge, a cover, and at least one wire,” said the patent. “The base may be hingedly attached to the lid.” The language in this patent is magnificent, using words rarely used outside the context of a patent, but entirely correct in this place – like hingedly! In the patent, a couple of different iterations for this laptop keyboard covering method are shown. One is relatively

samsung bixby smart speaker winds up for 2018 debut

2017 could very well be considered the year of the smart speaker. Though Google Home launched at the tail end of 2016, Google introduced two new models this year: the Google Home Mini and Home Max. Apple revealed its Siri-powered HomePod for an early 2018 launch, while Amazon let its new Echo Show out of the gate and released a new version of the standard Echo. Surely we can’t expect Samsung to sit on the sidelines and just watch all of this happen, right?Of course not. After all, Samsung now has an AI smart companion of its own in Bixby, so a speaker featuring the assistant would naturally follow next. Rumors about the speaker started to kick up around the time Apple revealed the HomePod, leading Samsung to confirm the speaker without any extra details back in August.Today, we’re hearing

Ashley King Feb 24th, 2017We always hear about explosive Chinese phone manufacturer growth in all of the mobile tech growth reports we see every quarter, but would you believe it’s not a Chinese company that shipped the most brand new phone models in 2016? Nope, that title lands squarely on the South Korean giant, Samsung. A new report from Business Insidershows that while Samsung and Apple are neck and neck when it comes to global market share of their devices, Samsung actually produces waaaaay more models globally than Apple. Even more than companies like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo, who are growing exponentially in China right now. The funniest part about this chart is that it doesn’t include the numerous carrier models that Samsung produces for T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint.

galaxy s9 release preview `unlikely` at ces 2018

Samsung spoke up this week on the possibility that the Samsung Galaxy S9 would be previewed at CES 2018. “It is unlikely,” said Samsung, in a chat with the Korea Herald. Instead, it’s significantly likelier that the company will reveal the device’s full details at an event just before Mobile World Congress.Mobile World Congress takes place in February of 2018. The event starts on the 26th of February and ends on the 1st of March, 2018. In the past, Samsung held their event on the day just before the public opening of Mobile World Congress, on a day generally considered “Press Day.” That means Samsungs next event is likely set for the 25th of February, 2018.
