what is space? the 300-year-old philosophical battle that is still raging today

Mountains. Whales. The distant stars. All these things exist in space, and so do we. Our bodies take up a certain amount of space. When we walk to work, we are moving through space. But what is space? Is it even an actual, physical entity? In 1717, a battle was waged over this question. Exactly 300 years later, it continues.

genes in space-3 successfully identifies unknown microbes in space

Being able to identify microbes in real time aboard the International Space Station, without having to send them back to Earth for identification first, would be revolutionary for the world of microbiology and space exploration. The Genes in Space-3 team turned that possibility into a reality this year, when it completed the first-ever sample-to-sequence process entirely aboard the space station. Results from their investigation were published in Scientific Reports.

I've been pretty overwhelmed about space lately. Our culture really loves to visualize and imagine space exploration, life out there, and it's something that really gets stuck in your mind and it has to be expressed in someway at some point. This post is my way of saying: the space rocks, get inspired by it like I am.
So I went searching for cool space inspired artworks to share with you, and I think I've managed to assemble a good set of cool pieces for you. From photography, to retro space art, here you'll find some sweet art!

boeing deep space gateway habitat may help humans get to mars

Boeing has taken the wraps off its new Deep Space Gateway, a concept habitat that could serve as a crucial component for getting humans to Mars. According to Boeing, the company will use NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) to send the Deep Space Gateway up into space ‘in the early 2020s,’ doing so in four launches with components to assemble the habitat. Humans could use this as a stopping point of sorts on their way to Mars. The Deep Space Gateway can be thought of as something like the International Space Station, in that it could help with the exploration of space and accept shipments of various sorts, as well as accommodating humans who are on their way to other parts of space. For example, Boeing says this habitat could end up being ‘the waypoint for Mars missions.’The company envisions a

trump not giving up on his idea for a 'space force'

Donald Trump raised a few eyebrows in March when he shared some thoughts on militarizing space. “My new national strategy for space recognizes that space is a warfighting domain, just like the land, air, and sea,” the president said. “We may even have a space force – develop another one, space force. We have the Air Force, we’ll have the space force.”I guess he wasn’t kidding.President Trump mused again Tuesday about adding a new branch of the military – a Space Force – and this time made clear he is thinking seriously about it.Trump aired his thoughts during a ceremony at the White House, where he presented the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy to the U.S. Military Academy’s Black Knights football team for its victories over Navy and Air Force. The president told West Point cadets, “You will be

Like Earth, space has weather. Except instead of swirling winds and downpours of precipitation, space weather is defined by shifting electric and magnetic fields and rains of charged particles. At the very beginning of space, starting just 60 miles above Earth's surface, there's a layer of the atmosphere that shifts and changes in concert with both types of weather.

free storage space on your iphone or ipad ... by downloading an app

Once I delete the game, I have more than 6GB of free storage space again. The app you choose will begin to download until your device runs out of space. Then the magic begins, as iOS intelligently figures out what it can delete to make room for your download. In my case, the operating system deleted movies that I’d loaded onto my device but never watched, along with the few temporary files that were taking up space on my iPhone. Most of the time, this trick will free up around 1GB of space. In my case, it freed well over 6GB. Once finished, you can delete the app and enjoy your extra space. Of course, you should also take some time to play the game and enjoy yourself first. If you want more control over how you free up storage space, you can check out these articles on managing what’s kept o

president trump wants to create a military ‘space force’

Apparently, the idea started out as a joke. "I said, 'Maybe we need a new force, we'll call it the Space Force,' and I was not really serious. Then I said, 'What a great idea,' maybe we'll have to do that," the president said. He continued to discuss why the Space Force would be a good idea. It's unclear whether the president was joking. We've asked the White House for clarification on whether the president was, in fact, in jest when he discussed this.Joke or not, President Trump isn't close to the first person to discuss militarizing space. The Air Force already has a Space Command division that oversees our country's military operations in space. While militarizing space is a bad idea for many reasons, it's already happening. Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coates said in 2017 t

That leads them to understand how galaxies form and develop over billions of years. The telescope is set for launch in October next year from French Guiana and has a mission lifetime of between five to ten years. It will have seven times more light gathering power than its predecessor, the Hubble Space Telescope.

the surprising scale of china's space program
